2nd Annual Snowman’s Run Cruise Night!
We are West Bound and Down this year for the second annual Snowman’s Run to Benefit Wounded Veterans. Snowman’s Run started officially in 2013 as an idea among several friends. This year we will be traveling from Atlanta, Georgia to Texarkana, Texas just as Bo “Bandit” Darvil did while blocking in the infamous black Pontiac Trans Am for Cletus “Snowman” Snow. Though the two were bootlegging Coors in the Kenworth 18 wheeler East of the Mississippi, Sheriff Bufford T. Justice was in high speed pursuit because Juniors bride had escaped the clutches of marriage and was the Bandits “seat cover” for most of the journey. And to think she skipped out on a wedding after the Sheriff had decorated up the town at a cost of $40.00.
The Snowmans Run celebrates Smokey and the Bandit by traveling across multiple states in Pontiac Trans Ams, as well as, movie correct recreations of the Snowman Kenworth tractor trailer and the Sheriff Buford T Justice police car. Though it is a lot of fun, we are sure to emphasize our American Armed Forces wounded Veterans. Jerry Reed was active in bringing awareness to our wounded veterans before he passed away and we continue to carry on his vision. We met Jerry Reed’s family in 2009 and his daughter Lottie informed us of his commitment to the Wounded Warrior Project. We decided to continue his tradition by honoring him and Wounded Veterans. Donations are accepted and raffles are held to raise money for our wounded veterans. More than $5,000 has been donated to various veteran organizations over the years.
The Snowman’s Run will begin in Atlanta on May 25th with a guided tour showcasing locations where the movie was filmed. We then travel to Tallahassee, FL to tour Trans Am Depot where the only licensed Trans Am is still being made using the modern day Camaro. A stop in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, then Biloxi and Ridgeland, MS before finally arriving in Texarkana, TX on May 29th. Anyone can participate and all cars are invited to join in on the fun. We certainly want to invite out the local car community to join us in Ridgeland, MS on Thursday evening (May 28) from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at The Renaissance Mall for a cruise night. We hope to take you back to 1977 and have a great night of fellowship!
